The launch of the PSCBC Development and Empowerment Programme

On 23 June 2023, the PSCBC hosted 16 grade 12 learners (8 boys and 8 girls) from Stanza Bopape Secondary School as part of the launch of the PSCBC Development and Empowerment Programme (DEP). DEP is a programme aimed at assisting school children by exposing them to the world of work and showcasing the various careers that are available to them.

The Senior Manager of ICT, Mr. Oomang Parag on behalf of the General Secretary, welcomed the learners and further outlined the purpose of the day. Through presentations from the PSCBC’s various divisions, the learners were introduced to information about various career paths such as information technology, human resource management, collective bargaining, dispute resolution, labour law, logistics, financial management, monitoring and evaluation, and communication and marketing.

To make the visit fun and educational at the same time the learners took a tour of the sector bargaining councils (GPSSBC and PHSDSBC). They were also taken to the server room to learn more about IT and the importance of servers in organisations.

The day ended with a ceremony where the learners were awarded certificates of attendance. The learners, the life orientation teacher, and the principal of the school expressed their delight and gratitude to PSCBC for an eye-opening day.

The learners were provided with meals, and transport and received a gift hamper with branded merchandise from PSCBC and sectors.
